72 Hour pH Monitoring (Bravo pH Capsule)

The Bravo™ reflux testing system is used to evaluate heartburn or reflux related symptoms in patients who suffer from chronic reflux symptoms (more than once per week ) and have symptoms that may interfere with daily life such as:

  • Frequent indigestion or burning sensation in the centre of chest

  • Sour or bitter-tasting fluids in the throat or mouth

  • A back-up of acid in the throat, making it uncomfortable to lie fat or bend over

Chronic reflux can be associated with a more serious problem known as GORD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease). This can lead to other conditions such as dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), strictures (narrowing of the oesophagus), and Barrett’s oesophagus.

Bravo® pH monitoring is a wireless, capsule-based test used to evaluate gastro-oesophageal reflux. It records acid levels in the oesophagus over 2-4 days to assess the frequency and duration of reflux episodes, providing detailed feedback and correlation between episodes of pain and reflux.

A small capsule is temporarily attached to the lining of the oesophagus during gastroscopy. The capsule continuously monitors pH levels and transmits the data wirelessly to a portable recorder worn on a shoulder strap. Over time, the capsule detaches naturally and passes harmlessly through the digestive system.
